Biotechnology is a forward-looking field, it is associated with the dynamic development of this field of science. The aim of education in the field of biotechnology is to educate students in the field of physics, chemistry, computer science and to acquire thorough biological knowledge. A graduate of biotechnology is well prepared to take up work in modern biological, medical, biochemical, environmental and research, control and diagnostic laboratories. Biotechnology at the Wrocław University of Technology educates in the field of bioprocess engineering, environmental protection, biocatalysis, organic chemistry and biochemistry as well as designing new medicines.

Modern chemistry is above all an experimental science based on chemical reactions conducted under controlled laboratory conditions. An important issue in chemistry is the study of substances and their qualitative changes. Modern chemistry tries to explain the mechanism of these transformations at the molecular level, and also looks for the relationship between the properties of substances and their composition and atomic structure. The field of chemistry at the Wrocław University of Technology specializes in the areas of chemical analytics, organometallic chemistry and medical chemistry.

Chemical engineering deals with designing and controlling of technological processes and lines. It is a universal science about processes occurring not only in the chemical industry, but in all processing industries. Currently, process engineering is entering the field of environmental protection in the part concerning the theory of processes, as well as the design and selection of equipment used in the protection of water, air and soil. Theoretical foundations of chemical and process engineering are the phenomena of momentum, heat and mass transport as well as multiphase flows.

These are all methods used to produce useful chemicals on an industrial scale by means of chemical processes. Chemical technology involves extracting from the raw materials desired ingredients and further processing. Organic chemical technology deals with the production of products related to everyday life: plastics, cosmetics, dyes, detergents, processing fossil raw materials and natural resources (renewable). An important aspect of the conducted research is the development of physicochemical and technological bases for the production methods of artificial fertilizers.

Material engineering is a scientific proposition for students interested in learning about the micro- and macrostructure of macromolecular compounds and the correlation between the structure of macromolecules and their properties. The task of material engineering is to study the influence of structure on properties as well as to determine and prevent undesirable changes in the usable properties of materials. This enables the development of methods for obtaining, using, protecting (eg against corrosion) materials with strictly defined functional characteristics. The education program includes subjects related to the physicochemistry of polymers, chemical and physical modification of polymers. Students acquire the latest knowledge about structural synthetic materials, nanocomposites.
